The Best Laid Plans, the first Sidney Sheldon’s book for me. Seems like I’m going to be a fan of him. It’s full of drama and unexpected twist towards the end. This novel was full of Suspense, and Mystery.
Probably one of the best thriller novels I have read. Love and revenge seem to be inseparable for Leslie Stewart, towards her former fiancée. He left her days to their wedding, to wed a Senator’s daughter in this novel.
The tale revolves around Leslie Stewart. She is a young and aspirational woman who gets caught up in a web of power, deceit and betrayal.
It is set in the high-stakes political arena. Leslie begins her career working for presidential aspirant and charismatic senator Oliver Russell as his secretary.
Oliver is quickly drawn to her knowledge, tenacity and attractiveness.Their working relationship quickly turns into a passionate love affair.
As Oliver Russell, her former beau, got a place into politics. As he climbed up the political ladder to become the President of The United States, Leslie built her own empire. She’s controlling the numerous printing tribunals to news stations and channels.
And each time, Leslie got hungry for sensational news related to The White House and Mr. President Oliver Russell, in the aim to bring him down. Leslie took the opportunity to “showcase” her power in the event after a young teenager, Chloe Houston, was found murdered in a high-class hotel suite. usually booked by high-ranking officials, ministers and presidents.
However, there was a twist to who was the actual murderer of Chloe Houston and other women (due to overdose of liquid ecstasy) as well as the coincidence murders of the key witness leading to Chloe Houston’s death and an FBI official.
Sydney Sheldon completely flips the narrative in the conclusion. Simply amazing.
