Colleen Hoover’s book Confess is my second book. The most amazing thing about this book is Confessions. Also, the paintings which are not a product of imaginations but the random confessions by folks.
Auburn lost her one true love when she was just 15. Six years later, she still finds it hard to move on. She has recently moved to Texas in search of employment. So, she grabs a job of hairdresser and immediately starts to hate it as it doesn’t really fascinate her and also doesn’t pay much.
When she is looking for another job, she stumbles across Owen’s Art studio where there’s a notice posted outside his apartment for urgent requirement in the novel Confess.
Later when Owen sees her for the first time which isn’t the first time actually, but he manages to hide it well. Owen is a painter, and his paintings are the result of People’s confessions that they put in a box outside his apartment. He hires her to assist him for a day.
Both felt instant mutual connection & they are struggling with their problems that are holding them back from each other. Auburn has her past and Owen has his present to deal with. Colleen Hoover’s characters are usually very strong. I kind of love the idea of Owen’s art being based around anonymous confessions.
I did get irritated by one character Trey. To save the relationship Owen needs to do the confess. He has a fear that the confession could be more destructive. On the other hand, for Auburn cutting Owen from her life is the only way to get her life back on track.
I thought it was brilliant that Owen based his paintings on real people’s anonymous confessions. It was incredibly original and clever. The books final chapter was fantastic. Sometimes both Owen and Auburn acted very childish in this novel confess.
Although they were only in their early 20s.But the decisions they were making felt like they acted younger. It also bothered me when Owen would tell Auburn that he was the only one who deserved her. It just didn’t sit right with me when he said that.
I found myself getting very frustrated with the choices they kept making and saying there was no other way, except that there was. The drama in this story of Confess and the conclusion were a bit too cliché for me. Overall, I enjoyed the writing style of this book and certain scenes. I just loved the idea of paintings of confessions The story and characters didn’t appeal to me. This book just wasn’t for me.
Colleen Hoover‘s characters are usually very strong but just not in this book,Confess. I kind of love the idea of Owen’s art being based around anonymous confessions. Highly recommend for artists and art lovers.
